Louisiana - Round Trip USA

We only 'passed through' the state of Louisiana, USA in three days as there was nothing much on our must see list of places to visit.

There are however nine National Wildlife Refuges, one National Park and ---- State Parks in the state of Louisiana.

The State Tourist Office for the state of Louisiana, USA is: Louisiana Office of Tourism - Box 94291, Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9291.

21st November 1994 Entered the state of Louisiana on Hwy90 to Gibson, LA - passing through New Orleans. Did a drive through the centre – Not Mardi Gras – the city looked pretty run down, and tatty! Found our way to Hideaway Ponds a small RV and camping site. A really well equipped campsite. Two swimming pools one indoor and one out. Fishing and Mini golf. Some Americans take this game quite seriously! There were very hungry mosquitoes at the lake – Jean was eaten alive! Caught our first few crayfish in the lake that is crawling with them! Very tasty - but need a lot more than five each to make a meal!

The next day we woke early and went for an early Jacuzzi, after which we had a long leisurely breakfast followed by a game of golf. Left about 11pm - went to the Jean Laffitte Visitor Centre at Lafayette and learned a bit about the Cajun people that still live in the area today and the Arcadians who settled the prairies, bayous and marshes of southern Louisiana. Their origins, migration and settlement. Bought some of the genuine 'Cajun Sound' music. Had lunch and phoned home to UK.

Camped at Lake Charles – Wal-Mart.

23rd Left Lake Charles heading off towards Baytown, Texas.
