North Carolina - Round Trip USA We were in and out of the state of North Carolina, USA twice over nine days as there were a few things on our must see list of places to visit. There are also eleven National Wildlife Refuges, eight National Parks and ---- State Parks in the state of North Carolina. The State Tourist Office for the state of North Carolina, USA is: North Carolina Travel & Tourism - 532 South Perry Street, Montgomery, AL 36104. ~~~~~~~~~~ 12th To Waynesville, North Carolina. to join the Blue Ridge Parkway. This will take us up through North Carolina to Virginia. The parkway follows the Appalachian Mountains and gives you endless views
of parallel hill and mountain ranges. The parkway is just under 470
miles long and links two national parks - Great Smoky Mountains and
Shenandoah. The 'fall colours' were just coming in as we started our
journey up the parkway getting better the further north we travelled. Picture from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Smoky Mountains. At many of the overlooks there are exhibits or buildings of interest. With plenty of information about the mountain people and their way of existence as pioneers. 13th Travelled on the Blue Ridge Parkway stopping at just about every overlook to take in the breathtaking scenery and beautiful waterfalls. During the trip we were getting to elevations well over 5000 feet. 14th Blue Ridge Parkway - visited The Northwest Trading Post and further on Cumberland Knob visitors Centre at an elevation of 2885 feet. Then moved into Virginia still on the parkway. ~~~~~~~~~~ 20th October 1995 From Virginia to Cumituck , North Carolina. Overnight at Cumituck Shores CtoC Went fishing on the 21st. Overnight (21st) at a Cumituck Shores, CtoC in Cumituck NC. 22nd October Drove down the coast to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina – Visited the museum and saw the memorial to the Wright Brothers. Saw loads of turtles along the way to New Berne. overnight at Wal-Mart ‘Buy For Le$$ Carpet’, New Berne, NC. New Berne is the site of a battle, March 1862, when US Brigadier General Burnside attacked the Confederate Brigadier General Lawrence Branch with a total of over 1000 casualties on both sides. 23rd Taking H’way 17 we headed south through thunder and lightning. Overnighted at Briarcliffe, Coast to Coast resort. 24th Spent the day on the beach. 25th Travelled all day into South Carolina
